Mr. Muhammad Umar Riaz, from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is an officer of the Civil Service of Pakistan. His responsibilities include drafting legal opinions and reports on the government’s policies on international trade-related issues for consideration by the Federal Cabinet and for submission in Pakistani courts. He also advises the office of the Additional Attorney General on trade-related cases in Pakistani courts. He is also responsible for liaising with other organizations involved in the implementation of trade-related policies, including the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan Standards Quality Control Authority, and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
Mr. Riaz has received trainings from the World Trade Organization, the Pakistan Institute of Trade & Development, and the Civil Services Academy.
Moreover, Mr. Riaz is tasked with preparing summaries for the Federal Cabinet’s consideration of trade-related measures. His professional background also includes service within the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan. Before embarking on his career in the Civil Service of Pakistan, he served in the Government of Punjab. Mr. Riaz was enrolled as an Advocate in Pakistan in the year 2012.
Mr. Riaz holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) (Political Science) (achieving the Roll of Honour and Certificates of Academic Distinction). He has also received training in WTO law from the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation, as well as training from the Pakistan Institute of Trade & Development and the Pakistan Civil Service Academy.
