On 14 and 15 July 2016, the ACWL participated in a workshop on WTO dispute settlement, sponsored by the Trade Advocacy Fund (TAF) and hosted by the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS).

The workshop took place in Dakar, Senegal, and was attended by government officials from Burkina Faso, Côte-d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo.  The workshop took place in the presence of officials of the Commission of ECOWAS, as well as of representatives of TAF and of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The workshop was conducted in both English and French, and presentations were provided by several international trade law experts, including ACWL staff.  The purpose of the workshop was to increase awareness of the WTO dispute settlement system among ECOWAS Member States, to strengthen their capacity to participate in WTO disputes, as well as to make use of relevant existing support and resources.
