Australia's Minister for Trade, Mr. Simon Crean met in Geneva with Mr.
Frieder Roessler, Executive Director, and confirmed that Australia will
make a significant financial contribution of AUS$3 million (approximately
CHF2.8 million) to the ACWL. Minister Crean and Australia’s Foreign
Minister, Mr. Stephen Smith, had jointly announced this contribution during
the recent APEC Leader’s Week in Singapore.
In his remarks at the plenary session of the 7th WTO Ministerial Conference
in Geneva on 30 November 2009, Minister Crean had emphasized the vital link
between trade and development. He stated that it was essential that trade
liberalisation be complemented by capacity building so that developing
countries could take advantage of market access opportunities.
