On 19 May 2009, H.E. Mr. Vu Dung, Viet Nam's Ambassador to the United Nations and Permanent Representative to the WTO visited the ACWL to sign the protocol of accession of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the Agreement Establishing the Advisory Centre on WTO Law. Mr. Frieder Roessler, Executive Director, welcomed Ambassador Vu and signed the Protocol on behalf of the ACWL. Ambassador Vu was accompanied by Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Representative, Mr. Le Hai Trieu and Mr. Bach Quoc An of the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the WTO.
Once Viet Nam completes the process of accession to the ACWL by depositing its instrument of ratification with the Executive Director, it will become the 30th developing country Member of the ACWL. When the ACWL was created in July 2001, there were 19 developing country Members. Upon Viet Nam’s accession, therefore, the developing country membership of the ACWL will have increased by over 50 per cent since 2001.
