Three lawyers to join ACWL under Secondment Programme for Trade Lawyers

The ACWL’s Secondment Programme for Trade Lawyers gives lawyers from the governments of least developed countries and ACWL Members entitled to the services of the ACWL the opportunity to join the staff of the ACWL as paid trainees for a period of nine months. The ACWL has selected the following three lawyers from Egypt, Uganda and Uruguay to join the ACWL under that Programme from September 2009 to June 2010.

Mr. Ahmed Rabie AboElnour, a senior trade lawyer at the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt, has participated in a number of WTO dispute settlement proceedings on behalf of Egypt. He has also worked as an intern with the law firms White & Case and Van Bael & Bellis. Mr. AboElnour holds an LL.B degree from Ain Shams University, Egypt, and an LL.M degree from the American University in Cairo.

Ms Catherine Muganga is a state attorney in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of Uganda. She has recently been involved in the negotiations on "Economic Partnership Agreements" between the European Community and the ACP countries. Ms Muganga holds an LL.B. (Hons) degree from Makerere University, Uganda, and an LL.M degree from Dalhousie University, Canada.

Ms Karla Beszkidnyak Pérez is a government official in Uruguay's Foreign Service. Her responsibilities relate to trade issues arising under the MERCOSUR as well as under the WTO. She has recently acted as secretary to an inter-ministerial commission set up to coordinate activities of all government ministries involved in international trade. Prior to joining Uruguay’s Foreign Service, Ms Beszkidnyak Pérez worked as a private lawyer and a public notary. She has degrees in law and in international relations from the University of Uruguay.
