The ACWL will give lawyers from the governments of least-developed countries and ACWL Members entitled to the services of the ACWL the opportunity to join the staff of the ACWL as paid trainees from mid-September 2005 to mid-June 2006. The launch of this Secondment Programme for Trade Lawyers has been made possible by funding provided through the generosity of the governments of Canada, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
The Programme is intended to provide government officials entrusted with functions relating to the legal aspects of trade policy the opportunity to broaden their professional experience in the field of WTO law by temporarily joining the staff of the ACWL. The participants will be provided with both theoretical training and practical experience in WTO law and an opportunity to participate actively in WTO dispute settlement proceedings. Upon completion of the Programme, the participants are expected to resume their employment with their government.
The least-developed countries and ACWL Members entitled to the services of the ACWL may each nominate no more than two candidates. The final date for the submission of the applications is 1 April 2005. The maximum number of participants in the 2005-2006 Programme is three.
